E-waste or electronic waste is referred when an electronic product is discarded after the end of its useful life. The rapid development of technology and the consumption driven society results in the creation of a very large amount of e-waste in everyday life. Large household appliances, Small household appliances, IT equipment, Consumer electronics, Lamps and Luminaries, Toys, Tools, Medical devices, Monitoring and control instruments and Automatic dispensers. These include used electronics which are destined for reuse, resale, salvage, recycling, or disposal as well as reusable.

India is the 5th largest producer of electronics waste, or e-waste, within the world, generating on the brink of 2 million metric tonnes in 2016. It faces a huge crisis with e-waste management. Although the Indian Government introduced its first dedicated e-waste management policy in 2011 and expanded its scope in 2016, 5% of e-waste in India is recycled through formally regulated units.
